Hibernation

Hibernation

We build our nests in the dark
Tiny cramped spaces
Stuffed into corners
Pressed up against the windows
Wrinkled articles of clothing
Fuzzy inflatable pillows
Coats and jackets
A blanket if we’re lucky
Barely covering our heads and faces
Tucking in our arms and hands
Curled up tight like squirrels
A stray leg or foot sticks out
Blocking the path
Between the rows
Winding through our sleep
While swaying on the rails
Another long restless journey
Through the night
On the train for home
